Expectedly, there are a handful of new features debuting with Android 12. This document allows OEMs to prepare themselves for future hardware launches. Failing to meet the requirements mentioned in the CDD could result in the manufacturer failing the Google Compatibility Test Suite, thus making them ineligible to use Google’s apps and services. A bulk of the changes outlined in the new CDD don’t have a major impact on the manufacturers....

The Face Unlock feature on Android 13 Beta 1 was first spotted by Brandon Lee, who shared a screenshot via Twitter (via Phone Arena). Lee notes that despite the feature seemingly being ready, it doesn’t actually work at the moment. Moreover, the feature also appeared on a Pixel 5 running Android 13 Beta 1. But we’re unsure if the device will support Face Unlock during the commercial release of Android 13....

Affected Pixel users have taken to online forums like Reddit to report the issue. According to the Reddit posts (via 9to5Google), the devices don’t respond to a wireless charging pad. For some, the charging icon appears on the screen but the phone doesn’t draw any power. Some others, meanwhile, say that the phone reports a charging error or misalignment with the charging pad. A few users have found that wireless charging works for some time but stops abruptly showing a “not charging” message on the screen....

Esper.io notes that Google won’t entirely stop sideloaded apps from accessing accessibility services. Users can grant access by heading over to the app info screen and tapping “allow restricted settings” in the top right corner. This could be helpful for users or developers who like to install non-Play Store apps that they trust. In any case, Google wants to make it more apparent to Android 13 users that sideloading apps could be dangerous....
