Ahead of Canada Day today, Reddit user u/als26 received a notification from Google Assistant reminding them to turn off their alarm (via 9to5Google). “Tomorrow is Canada Day,” the notification is titled. “Tap to change your 9:30 alarm,” the follow-up text reads. The Redditor says 9:30 am is their usual alarm time for work. Tapping the notification takes you to the Alarm page. From here, Google Assistant will leave you alone. You will have to manually turn off the alarm or reschedule it....

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has triggered several actions on the country from the US, the EU (European Union), and the G7. The sanctions caused a “payment system disruption” across the country, forcing Google to make changes to its Play billing system for users in Russia. On March 10, Google announced that Russian Android users would no longer be able to purchase apps and games via the Play Store. It paused the Play billing system in the country, effectively blocking users from making any in-app purchases, including subscription payments....

So why isn’t it rolling out to Pixel devices today? Well, according to Google, it said that it is “putting the finishing touches on a special release with Pixel-exclusive and Pixel-first experiences on Android 12.” So that’s Google’s explanation as to why it is not available for Pixel today. We don’t have a clue what these Pixel-exclusive features might be, but we are due for a Pixel Feature Drop. As we were supposed to get one in September, but that didn’t happen....

According to an APK Insight post by 9To5Google, Google Play Store is spotted getting an additional touch of Material You design. Notably, the new design will be applied to all the buttons throughout the app. Google pushed the Material You design for the Play Store back in October last year. However, there were some areas that were missing the touch of the Material You theme. It seems like the upcoming update to the Play Store would fix it....

Meredith Pickford, the lawyer representing Google, offered the company’s defense to the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg. A panel of five judges heard the arguments at the General Court on the first day of a five-day hearing. “The Commission shut its eyes to the real competitive dynamic in this industry, that between Apple and Android,” Pickford told the court. “By defining markets too narrowly and downplaying the potent constraint imposed by the highly powerful Apple, the Commission has mistakenly found Google to be dominant in mobile operating systems and app stores, when it was in fact a vigorous market disrupter....
